how does iphone work w/o PP connected to play mp3's and receiving calls?

Hey guys,

I searched for a bit before asking this question since it seemed kinda obvious to me (and maybe the answer is equally as obvious but I'll ask anyway) but how do you guys (without premium package) manage plugging your iphone into your car to play music, but answer calls as well via bluetooth headset?

I don't have the phone yet, but was thinking about picking up the 3g version sometime after launch in July. Now I obviously leave my ipod plugged into the pocked in the armrest then I have my cell phone in the little recess tilted up so when someone calls I can see the ID and answer with my headset.

Since the iphone will obviously have to be plugged in - when someone calls - how do you A) hear it ring and B) know who's calling? As mentioned before, this is without premium package or idrive so maybe this just won't work out well or I'll have to leave the armrest up, neither of which I want to do. Or do you just use your old ipod and phone separately, rendering this thread moot?

Thanks guys!

Wait do you have a bluetooth headset?

Do you have bluetooth with the car (it can be had a seperate option from ZPP and idrive)?

Well assuming that you have a bluetooth headset, if you are using the iphone as your ipod, it will automatically pause the music when a call comes through, the iphone will ring and also your headset will ring. You can either use the button on your headset to answer or open up your armrest and pick up the iphone to answer.

If you dont have a headset or bluetooth in the car you will just have to open up the armrest and answer your phone. Even if you dont hear it ring you cant miss that all of the sudden your music stops lol.

I do it all the time my iphone is plugged in (to the aux jack I still have to buy the ipod connector one of these days) and I will be playing music then all of the sudden the music stop and the phone rings.

yeah that pretty much answers my question - I was wondering if the music would pause then you hear the phone ring. Yes I have a bluetooh headset but I wouldn't want o have it in my ear all the time.

Yep, no need, my e46 doesnt have bluetooth and I usually leave the headset on the seat, the phone will still ring and the music will pause.
