NVH for Android App
I'd been considering buying this app for awhile, but the original price was north of $300, which I wasn't willing to part with for something that may or may not work for me. At the current price of $100 though, I was game.
My 335i has had a rumble at 65 mph for a couple years now, kind of like driving on a very fine rumble strip. No problem below 45 or over 75 mph, but at 65 it was just bad enough to annoy me. I suspected the CSB, but it was also similar to the vibration of worn u-joints, which I experienced on another car a few years ago. I also had a Mazda with a bent wheel that gave a similar symptom. I thought that if I went to the dealer, they'd just want to take the easy way out and replace the drive shaft. $1,250 or so as I recall, plus labor. So I bought the NVH app, hoping it would tell me what I was dealing with. It literally told me on the very first run that I had a 1st order driveline problem. I suspected that u-joints would be a second order vibration and contacted the seller at Vibrate Software to confirm. They agreed. As the u-joints are not replaceable, this was pretty good news, and it meant my hunch of a bad CSB was likely correct. I ordered a new one, along with a giubo and associated hardware, which is supposed to be replaced rather than reused. I finished the job today and the vibration is gone. I spent about $350 on software and new parts, but I saved a lot and got some new tools out of the deal as well. I have a couple classic cars, one of which has some high-speed vibration issues, and can't wait to run the NVH software on it too. In short, I found this to be a very useful app. BTW, if you ever need to drop the exhaust, a transmission jack and a car dolly (the kind that let you wheel a car around a garage) under each muffler make short work of removing and reinstalling the exhaust system. |

CSB failures are more common than one may be led to believe
Glad you fixed the problem, I've experienced CSB failure in a friend's e92 and it's annoying. This app seems quite useful, it might just be worth the $100 if I experience something like this myself. Thanks for sharing
