Coolant Pump Blocked Code
Hey folks,
I own a 2011 335xi (LCI) with about 42k miles on it. My car threw a yellow "engine too hot" triangle the other day, I pulled over let it cool down and then drove it the last few miles home. When I parked in my garage I could hear (in the cabin) a fan or some other sort of loud sound coming from the passenger front side of my car (not sure about exact location). It turned off when I turned the car off. I have never heard this sound before. I took my car to the shop today and they took a look at the codes that the car threw. It threw two codes at some point, one was for undervoltage detected and the other was coolant pump blocked. They said the undervoltage code was thrown because my CCC failed to go to sleep after the car turning off (this worries me alot since it sounds stupid expensive to fix). They were sort of confused about the water pump blocked code because generally, they see a water pump deviation code instead when the pump is on its way out. I also couldn't find any useful information about this code other than finding it in an obscure PDF online with fault code (hex) 0x377A and fault code (dez) 14202 . The shop is keeping the car overnight to check the battery tomorrow morning. I was hoping this would be relatively simple water pump and thermostat replacement and was planning at spending around $1.5k but am now a little worried. Does anyone have any experience with these issues? |

Your pump is dying. You will need to replace it or it will keep overheating.
0x377A: Coolant pump, shutdown: Pump blocked | The diagnostic function monitors the electric water pump for mechanical seizure. Possible Fault Causes: - Foreign matter/contamination in coolant - Incorrect coolant mixture ratio - Defective water pump Repair Procedures: - Execute operational check - Check coolant mixture ratio - Check water pump and coolant for foreign matter/objects - Replace water pump

Welp, I turned off auto-clear on the JB4 and drove home. I had code 0x3792 waiting for me when I got home. That translates to "Coolant pump, speed deviation: outside tolerance". Sounds like the water pump is not long for this world.
