a few weeks back i had my car washed by the dealership, i posted that they ended up scratching my paint...mostly on the hood. they also ended up scuffing up my rim pretty bad, but accepted all responsibility.

I have made an appointment for them to make good on the damage they had done to my car by buffing out the scratches, but i got a lot of resistance from people on the forums saying it was a bad idea.

my gut says dont do it, so im going to make a last plea...to get a good general idea of whether or not i should go thru with it, or make alternate plans to have the car corrected on my own dime.

Do i let them anywhere near my paint/clear...

No. Do some research and find someon you KNOW will do a good job. See Picus on this forum. He's in Toronto and he just did a great job on my car.

Bad idea. Get someone that knows what they are doing to fix it up and have the dealership foot the bill.

Let them do it first. If the dealership cannot fix it correctly, have one of the dealership's managers witness the results and ask them to have it professional done at an off-site detail shop.

yeah i was thinking "the picus route" later on down the road... give it a good rip for the summer months then bring it out next year to a road trip to have him go over it

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but you already asked for advice and most people were telling you not to do it, but you are still considering it so it seems like you're set on going through with it. If that's the case just let them do it and hope for the best.

that doesnt look like im decided on going thru with it, but im going to tell you this much. if i dont go, im going to just enjoy the ride for the rest of the summer months and park it come the wintertime. if i do go, ill be bringing a printout of all the comments that people have posted here about NOT having faith in their detailers.

I would also want them to assure me that if im not SATISFIED with the job done, for whatever reason...they will flip the bill for whoever i choose to fix the damage, AGAIN. then ill be seeing PICUS a lot sooner than next year LoL.

Im leaning a lot closer to just waiting it out than giving em a crack at it. but im going to at least talk to the man about my concerns. he might even think its just best that i take it somewhere else if im THAT fu@king fussy

Don't let the dealership touch your paint. They usually pay the lowest bidder to do detail jobs so you will most likely get subpar quality. Find a detailer with good feedback and let them foot the bill...

maybe if you do go to the dealership, they do have pro detailers there. Maybe you should go and demand that you get those people to work on your car instead of the regulars

yeah i asked about that, i was told that there is ONE REALLY GOOD guy, he is always busy LoL... I wonder why, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

+1 no need for excess trips...tell them you want a professional to do it and stick them with the bill

+3 here in the states SO CAL in particular Ive had bmw cover the cost of the details cause the customers flat out would not let the dealership touch the car!
One in particular i remember is when a Fuel pump went out and they left the car outside for a month and it collected alot of dust and they must of just wiped it off with no water leaving a couple of really nice scratches. Called BMWNA and demanded they cover the cost of a professional detailer. I was paid by the customer and he was reimbersed by BMW!!

No matter how "pro" their dealership guy is, he's not going to care too much since your car is just another car.
Dealers don't have the same mentality as us enthusiasts have.
What is a major scratch for us is nothing to them.

Most people just accept dealer washes and car washed because the paint still "shines" and it's mentally clean.

see, thats the kinda stupidity that im just blown away by...you would think that when youre dealing with 5o+ thousand dollar cars, there would be some general knowledge about detail at the dealership.

ok guys, im going to give the FLIP THE BILL speech when i get to the city. simply state that to them it might not be a big deal, but to me it is...and im tired of seeing the scratches *even the ones i have to get up REAL close to see* point being...they werent there when i dropped it off so they shouldnt be there now. I even spent some of my own dime and a lot of elbow grease correcting some of the damage they have done, ill make sure to let them know that as well.

Ill letcha guys know what they say. I really appreciate all the input, ever since i got on these forums its been nothing but a saviour for me and im sure that goes for a lot of others on this forum as well. Ive learned a lot in the last month or two, again...thanks.

Remember, the kids working in the back are just that, kids. They drive 1989 Civics, they get paid $12/hr... unless it's an M5 (which they will just do burn outs in), it's just another one of a thousand cars a day that is in their way.
