So I live in Miami and I dropped my 2007 BMW 335xi at the shop for an install with vrsf 335xi downpipes. I dropped the car off on Monday and I still haven't received it back and it's going to be Friday. I cannot believe a downpipe install at a very very reputable shop here will take a whole week to install downpipes on an xi (yes I know it's a lot more labor intensive). I called on Wednesday and he basically told me that some rusted bolts broke or whatever and they're waiting on bolts but wow it's really taken a whole week and I haven't received a response. So I don't know if I should give them a call again on Friday because I kinda need my car back, it being my daily and all. I called them on Tuesday and Wednesday so I don't know if I should bother them again on Friday or if I'll just be annoying at that point…don't know what to do. Any advice?
EDIT: Apparently the bolts were so damn rusted doing the install that it became a huge pain in the ass, the final product is great. Honestly my only real complaint is the lack of communication from not telling me they'll start two days after I dropped it off to telling me a day later until I called that the bolts are rusted and pretty hard to remove, other than that I would say the final product is great and for some odd reason I don't even have a check engine light without a tune lol. |

Cost me 1300 bucks (cad) including the alignment. The shop did say there was zero fitment issues with the new ones which is great and I haven't had any issues. Its labour intensive but that does sound too long. It's a terrible job to do on the xi tho!

Shops work at their own pace. You can do it in a garage on your back in under a day. My guess is you are not their priority. I guarantee it is not taking a spot up on the lift. Just make sure they do not charge you extra.
What did they quote you for the install anyways? |

Fuck me I would do dp installs every day of the week for 700. Not saying it is a rip off...but that is 7 hours at $100 an hour. Downpipes usually come new new gaskets and bolts.
Call them. For 700 you should have had it yesterday. I pray you are not paying for a rental during this. Some shops just suck by the way... |

If you google: 'diy 335xi downpipe install time' you will see the average time. Now image you are a shop with all the tools and experience etc. Not on your back in a garage. I dunno if you never plan on going back do your thing...I would show up and demand to know wtf is going on but I have worked on plenty of n54s etc. My guess is your stock downpipes are still in the car... |

When you contacted them the first time and they gave you a quote for the work.....how long did they say it would take to get your car back? I'm assuming you have documentation on this??
If you didn't ask them how long it would take.....and/or they didn't give you a time estimate......that's on you. If they did, hopefully you got it in writing. Call up their service manager and tell them they are well over their quoted time and you need the car back asap. Or did you not ask how long it would take when you gave them your car?? |

Well....at least you learn an important lesson. When working with repair shops, get EVERYTHING in writing. Actually, that pretty much applies to any time you pay anyone for any type of work.......on anything.

OP if your bill is still 700, at least that's good. Half of what I paid here in Canada lol. So they may have just worked on it between jobs, annoying for you but if it doesn't cost you more I'd say it's all good.

an experienced shop can do them in less than 3 hours. Ive done it in less just throw a support bar on it and take the rear subframe bolts out and have the other 4 on a few threads. Plenty of room. Looks like a lot of shops are over charging for this
