Anyone use an autometer vac/boost gauge? Is it accurate?
I just got done installing one of the smaller ultra-lite auto-meter combo vacuum/boost gauges. I took the car for a run, and it’s showing around 2” more vacuum than it should at idle, and shows around 2.5psi less boost than the car is actually making (according to my logs). After searching online….it sounds like it’s a real problem with these cheaper auto-meter gauges. When the car is off, the gauge is actually reading around 2”hg of vacuum….and it should be reading 0.
I emailed Auto-Meter….and they basically told me that I could send it in for repair, but they can’t tell me how long it’s going to take to get back, and they won’t just swap it out for a new one. Not sure I want to just wait around for them to repair it and come it comes back more accurate than it was. Anyone ever pulled out of these apart and tried to adjust it? I think if I could move the needle around on the shaft a little bit…that would get it reading correctly, I’m just not sure if I can take it apart without damaging it. Any tips/info would be great.
