Buying a Tiguan

My wife's pregnant now so we've been looking around for a smallish SUV with ok mileage to replace that sardine can 08 G37 she's driving around now. (Plus save some $$ 23,000 vs 46,000) We went to the dealer today and checked out the new VW Tiguan (I considered the x6 but I like the VW price tag alot better) test drove it and was absolutely amazed! The only VW I've ever been in or driven was a new Jetta rental car with the crappy 5 cyl so I din't know what to expect. Well that 2.0 Turbo Tiguan huals some ass and handles way above what I expected hit 110mph like nothing and felt smooth and solid. Anyways now my wife and I are trying to agree on a color before saturday when we'll be putting in the order. Bye bye Infiniti, and since I sold my Duramax and RX-7, it's all Euros! Just thought I'd share my thoughts on this thing since it just came out.

hmm yea i am also sort of in the market for a small suv since my Lexus is getting old and its not very fuel efficient. Tiguan looks good! Which spec are you looking into getting? Also, be aware of the Tiguan and passat's recent recall

Since it's a safety recall, the dealers can't sell until it's fixed.

Going with the base model. I don't want a roof rack! Only option I'm getting is the auto since it'll be easier for commuting and dealing with a screaming kid in the back. I wanted the 6MT but it's for the wife. I may sell my bimmer and get the 6MT in the color I want and mod it like I did with my current dd.

not sure if it matters to you but I thought the 6MT only is available in FWD?

Yes, I don't think you can get the base model with awd. But that's what I want. No options except the auto tranny. (My wife doesn't like the idea of a 6MT in an SUV she must be getting tired of the G)

Yeah but the 2.0 Turbo in the Tiguan has alot more tuning potential. FMIC, boost controller, intake, exhuast, ect. I don't think the Rav has all that stuff out for it and I'm addicted to modding.

I'd probably get the RAV4 for this reason alone. As I'm sure you well know, modding gets expensive. The scratch that you shell our for the mods listed above will put an LSD in your bimmer and then some.

The tiguan is a much better looking ride though.

Yup. The RAV's looks are nothing to RAVE about.
A few options and they can creep up the money scale quickly.

What is the deal with the R-line?

VW quality and RELIABILITY is nothing to Rave about either. i think that will be the biggest turn-off. VW has terrible resale value and terrible reliability compre to Toyota and Honda. I do have to agree that it looks alot better and has nicer interior. have you checked out the Acura RDX? or Honda CRX? RAV 4 is a good choice. i'm sure VW is nice to drive with the awsome turbo engine (afterall, they have build that engine forever). goodluck

I agree. I'd look at the RDX. VW reliabiliy (or lack thereof) gives me the willies.

Ah. The dealership was rediculous so I walked out. They've been calling me about twice a day since trying to offer me a "great deal". I went out and bought a HUMMER H3 on Monday instead. -Love it.

Yeah, our RAV-4 V6 hauls some serious ass (268hp's worth)... Plus, it gets around 28 mpg on the highway.
