255/35/18 on 18 x 9.0 [squared]
Hi All,
I know this has been asked a million times but I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find any conclusive evidence if something like this will or won't work. There are so many posts on the subject but they all just seem to end up dying out before a conclusion can be reached. Hopefully this post won't suffer the same fate. I have an 06 330xi and I'm looking at the M3 reps from **********s (18 x 9) and I'd like to put 255/35/18's on all corners to keep my handling and speedo in check. What I'm wanting to know is; 1 - Has anyone tried 255/35/18 on 9" rims squared on an e-90. 2 - Does it actually work with no fender rolling or camber plates 3 - Do you have any pictures of it? |

yes, u need offset to make this work. The main question is the front of the car. I only have info on e92 but in general ~et 30-35, and 2-2.5 camber. Yet i know dinan wheels are 18x9 and et 37 and -1 to -1.8 camber front. With the -1.8 camber front they can run 265 according to dinan but technically the website says 255 should work without any camber plates/suspension adjustments...

If I look how much space is left between strut/spring and rim / tire, I cannot imagine fitting a et37 9x18 wheel. The tire will be not free from the strut/spring.
I am planning the install this soon (spring has to arrive!) and I expect to run in the range of ET25-28 with 2.8 degrees negative camber. With my 8x17 ET33 wheels and 225 wintertires I have only a finger space on the inside. |

I've setup 18x9" with 255/35/18's a number of times for the E90. Strut tube clearance is the main concern. The second issue is fender clearance with that tire size. This setup will not work on a car without camber plates unless an extremely narrow profile tire is used (ie. not an extreme summer tire, and even that would be really close, or still protruding.
Below is 18x9" ARC-8 wheels. They are 18x9" et42, and we used a 10mm spacer for the front. The rear doesn't need a spacer, but in this photo there's a 5mm spacer on the back just for the hell of it. |

I was looking at this thread with VMR 19x9.5" ET33 on the front.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298996 As far as strut clearance is concerned, if a 19x9.5 ET33 rim will clear it then 18x9" ET33-ET35 should also clear the strut. Does my logic seem sound? Last edited by John_01; 03-12-2010 at 01:08 AM.. |

that oem setup doesn't rub because those tires are extremely narrow compared to a similarly sized summer tire. You can see they look extremely stretched. The 255's posted in my photo are square with the wheel.
I've put a lot of tires side by side with the OEM's and a Nitto NT-05 summer tire in 235/40/18 is about the same width as an OEM 255. That's a huge difference. If you stretched a 245/35 or 235/40 onto a 9, and you were riding high like that, sure you wouldn't rub, but then why run a 9" wheel at all, when you could just run an 8.5" wheel and not deal with any of the fitment issues, while still getting the same amount of measurable rubber on the ground. That car was running just over -2 I believe which is not much. |

Im running 18x9 +35 245/40/18 square setup and there is VERY VERY minimal clearance on the strut side, to the point where im scared to drive with it. Im thinking about throwing a pair of 3mm spacers on the front to get a bit more clearance, but +35 is already fully flush to the front fender. Another 3mm and it might stick out past the fender

So for anyone looking for info on a 18x9 square setup et35 and/or wondering is 255/35 r18 tires will cause issues with clearance or rubbing, specifically on an e90 335xi.. I just recently purchased and installed this setup, and have no issues with rubbing at all. That being said, it is at the absolute minimum clearance between wheel lip/ tire sidewall and strut.
Will Trey to take some pics of the clearance when I get a chance.. but I do have some pics of the car/ wheel & tire setup itself - Parts used - Alzor 18x9 square et35 style 030 wheels https://www.ecstuning.com/b-alzor-pa...-four/030-6kt/ Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 255/35 R18 https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tires.j...omCompare1=yes Hope this helps anyone having as much trouble as I did to find an actual definitive answer |
