Differential difference between LCI and nonLCI

I recently found racingdiffs LSD conversion and was excited to start the project. But I was told that my LCI e90 335i has a welded ring gear so the conversion will not be so easy. Can someone explain to me the performance benefit of the welded ring gear? Also, please give your opinion on if you believe a LSD would be worth doing on an LCI e90 335i? Thanks in advance for your replies.

LSD offers 50% more traction so for 335I it makes sense. Welded ring gear imo is dumb and I'm in you boat I have an LCI as well.

I would just buy a non welded version as a core on ebay and send it directly to them...

I did this when I got my mfactory lsd done. In my case the pre-lci auto diff was only $150 shipped or so from ebay.

Seller: e-yauto usually has lots of htem and ships them cheap. I have bought lots of things from them.

Just determine your final drive ratio and if it is a 188 or 215mm differential before purchasing. There should be welded and non welded versions of each but a non welded 215mm 3.46 is somewhat rare if you are looking for that one.

I am told that you can use the 215mm diff in place of the 188mm. The axles and driveshaft are a little longer on the 188mm version but from what I understand it can extend enough to work fine.

I strongly considered doing it but most people that I talked to said the strength difference wasn't that significant. It seems like the 215 should be stronger but the input connection might be the weak point.
