3 parts to this question:

1) will 18x8 ET24 wheels fit the car?

2) will 245/40R18 tires fit the car?

3) will 245/40R18 tires fit 18x8 ET24 wheels?

I'd say:

1) Yes. Search for YYx9 ET30 wheels to see how they fit in the front and rear since those are common and therefore are my frame of reference. I think they poke slightly (~6-8mm) in the front but that's personal opinion; they DO fit. 18x8 ET24 would sit 7mm deeper in the wheel well, so that's perfect IMO.

2) Yes, but getting close depending on actual tire size since some run wider than others. The camber from the M3 arms help you here. Also, 245/40R18 is getting a little tall at 25.72" unless you're on stock suspension. Could rub on bigger bumps.

3) Barely. 8" is the absolutle minimum width for most 245 width tires. Even if they fit, they'll pinch and you'll lose some steering feel and handling predictability.

If you're married to those wheels -- and I'd consider 8.5" if possible if I were you -- I'd go 235/40R18 and solve all three of those potential issues at once. They're better sized to an 8" wheel, split the difference in diameter between stock and 245/40R18s, and will buy you some room in front to make sure they don't rub.

BMW put 245/40/18 on factory cars (E60/E61 5series cars had that size), While yes it is on the narrower width for it; It is plenty fine

They will fit but 245 is a bit wide for an 8" wheel. It will look kind of stuffed, depending on the brand of tire you use. I'd probably go with a 235 which will look just right on that width. That offset will work just fine.
