320d engine rattle
Hi
I have an \'09 E92 320d. It has recently developed a low rev rumble/rattle under load. Most noticeable in 1st and 2nd prior to the turbo spooling when the noise suddenly stops. It doesn\'t fade out, but stops abruptly. The noise used to only happen when engaging the clutch, but now happens when clutch engaged Also it only happens when the car is warm. It sounds a bit like a tappety noise but I\'m unable to locate where the noise is coming from. Any ideas what I can check or know problems with this engine? It\'s not a huge issue at the moment, just a bit annoying. Thanks |

I had similar and it was the alternator that was rattling... But it could be anything
Very hard to say. Get a specialist with a good ear to open the bonnet and have a listen

I have the exact problem with my 320d that we've purchased last year. We've only done 6000km so far, but the rattle noise seems more obvious on 1st or 2 gear under load when travelling low speed.
Does anyone has a solution to the problem? I'm thinking to take it back to the dealer to have a look. |

My noise disappears instantly if I use more throttle. So only happens on light throttle.
I have presumed that it's engine management related doing something to manage fuel consumption? I did try the throttle body adaptation reset (even though mine is a manual) and that also seemed to fix it - although only temporary. Which is what leads me to think its ECU/throttle position/fuelling related. |

Hello fellow N47 engine users. Please help me identify the issue/sound from the engine. No idle or misfire issues. What do you think the sound is and the possible fix? I have already ordered the forte top end treatment and forte injector cleaner to try to see if that would help.
