2008 May production and chip

Hi all,

New E92 owner here. I read some post about new ECU program and possible problem with mods like JB2... etc.

What exactly is the problem?
I don't have i-Drive, How can I figure out my ECU software version?

Thanks
William

You can't... Only the dealer can tell you.

JB2 is still possible, but its power has been cut due to the new software that they are installing on our bimmers when we take it in for service. If you want a tune, then I suggest you either get an SSTT, V3, Dinan, or wait for the JB3.

they switched to the new ecu in march. so just look at your production date on the driver's side door. the ecu software can be loaded on pre march cars too though. and chances are everyone will get it sooner or later.

basically you can run jb2 with some reduced functionality. and then you can get credit for your jb2 when jb3 comes in august which will have full functionality.

sstt works but probably gives less hp than jb2.

dinan works.

procede v3 works.

these are the most popular options so you're all good. my advice tho, wait till the shark edit comes out in august and flash your own car with a tune you can create yourself, edit, or just buy

the shark edit is not compatible with msd81. the version coming out is only for msd80.

yes, msd80 is fine, whatever bmw progman is on it. if i had a feb08 build i'd pull off the ecu cover just to double check though.

Thanks a lot guys. I feel better about it now.

I don't drag race. I just do autox and some track days. I think a JB2 or JB3 would be a choice for cheap ass like me.

I'm pretty sure that the 135 has had the MSD81 since start of production(US bound production anyway).

Pre-March 135's have V80; at least that is what I was able to discern from the 1addict's site. However, it is best to take a look at your ecu to verify.
