Looking to upgrade to an aluminum vc, I've never had the gasket leak but I have had two vc's crack (one oem and one aftermarket). So as the saying goes; doing the same thing twice and expecting different results is.....

I'll be doing this myself and was told I'd have to replace injector seals and retaining rings, which I'm not too fond about it but it is what it is and that I should also plug head ports. I have heard that M18 vc doesn't require you to plug head ports because the vc already does (is this true?).

The next thing I am looking at is for the PCV. Ideally I'd like to use my own catch cans but I want to ensure I am using the correct valve/hardware.

Other than rbturbo's external pcv catch can setup, what else can I use?

I dont think you need to take the injectors out for the valve cover removal.

Go with M18. I have yet to install mine but it comes with EVERYTHING you need to install it. Even a tq stick for the fasteners so you don't over tq them. VERY high quality kit. It has new injectors seals, injector decouplers, VC gasket that are all from BMW, everything you need to properly install the kit.

I would email M18 about the headports. I plugged my headports. It is a VERY easy job and quick. It probably will add 15 minutes to your install. You tap each hole 6x 2 minutes each and then insert the plugs which you just screw in. I put RTV on the threads and a bit on top of each plug to make sure they are 100% fully sealed. Overkill but everyone has RTV around.

You can keep your catch cans if you want.

As far as I know you do need to take out the injectors to install the new aluminum valve cover, but not if you were replacing an oem one with another oem one.

If M18 allows you to not need to plug the head ports then I would go with them just for that convenience alone, but I'm not sure if it actually does.

You could run radium dual catch can set up for that, or I believe you can do the RB external system and then route a high side catch can to the new VC (I think).
