if your car isn't that dirty, quick detailer should take care of it. if you don't have quick detailer, a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl and water should do too

if it is dirty, wash the entire car

I don't think this would be a good idea at all, that will strip any protection that it touches and it provides no lubricity for removing the etching.

OP are you saying it won't go away even after washing? If it looks like a ripple it's probably some bad etching that will need to be polished to make it look better, you may not be able to get it 100% but you should see an improvement. Do you have any machine polisher and polishes?

Definitely sounds like etching if it wont go away when you wash the car. Polishing should do the trick like 328i was suggesting.

Here is what I would do:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Try ScratchX on the area
4. If nothing worked you need it machine buffed. If you are not familiar with using a machine to buff your car seek a pro detailer, preferably one that is reputable. If i am not mistaken you are located in SOCAL therefore we have some good detailers on this forum that can help you out.

Best of luck,
Jared
