This may be common knowledge to hockey fans. A doctor told me they’ll let players fight as long as they’re standing. There’s no serious punches as long as they’re standing on the ice. When one of them is laying ON the ice, it gets serious.

Meh, sort of. Usually they get tangled up and kind of glancing blows. But sometimes a haymaker lands and whoo booy. As a hockey fan it's not my favorite part of the game but once in a while someone needs to get served.
