Question regarding MHD with Sutphin TCU tune

Hey guys,

My car has a custom tune from Ken @ Wedge, from the previous owner. It's had some revisions for the most recent mods and ran phenomenally when I got it.

It has a custom tcu tune from Sutphin via XHP, where the car does not pull timing between shifts @ WOT and they crack off really fast and smooth.

I had to reinstall the MHD tune a while back and it gave me the option for which trans to select. I think the options were "auto, manual, auto with alpina, and auto with XHP stage 3". I chose XHP stage 3 and it seems like it was definitely the wrong selection as the car now has a dramatic pause in acceleration and there's also a big delay between shifts at WOT. It kind of bucks and feels like its fighting itself. I'm sure what happened is the DME tune is now commanding a massive timing pull which the tcu tune was not expecting.

Anyone know which option I should choose? I'm guessing auto, but I see that some XHP users back in the day before MHD was this advanced had to select manual for certain XHP tunes. I know I could ask Sutphin or Wedge but since these came from the PO, I don't get support until I get a new tune which someday I will do.

Thanks so much!

You select Auto with XHP trans option, you will need the custom TCU tune, otherwise you can flash OTS XHP tunes.

If you flashed over a custom TCU tune from previous owner (don't have a copy) and want it back.

I see 2 options...

1. Ask previous owner for a copy of the custom TCU tune from Sutphin.

2. Ask Sutphin for the tune, although since you didn't buy it off him, he may ask you to pay for a custom tune.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. I actually have a backup of the Sur phone tune from the PO ans the tune is still flashed.

The thing I was unsure of was which option to select in MHD as it seems like it hasn’t shifted right at WOT since I teflashed. That being said, i had a trans service done recently and they used the wrong fluid so maybe that was causing it?

I changed out all the fluid last night but haven’t tried WOT yet since the fluid they put in was vastly different on viscosity so I’m giving it a little time to relearn.

I think I did select “auto with XHP”, I was thinking it had the stages but it does not.

If you have a copy of the Sutphin Custom TCU tune, you should be ok.

In MHD you just need to select Auto with XHP before flashing.

Yeah give it some miles, trans should be ok hopefully. Then run a 3rd gear log, check timing pulls. If it hasn't reduced pre XHP, then reflash the XHP Sutphin tune and try again.

Right on, thank you very much! I’ll give it some more time now that it’s got the right fluid in it ans try again. I appreciate it!

I think he still isn't, something about the tcu is not flashable even for XHP I think. If I can't get mine shifting right I may just buy the updated flash, I'm not sure if mine's the updated one or not but it was incredible!
