I figured I was lucky with what I got. Chalked it up to a bad time for buying but had decent equity in my used vehicle since the used market is still out of whack.
I factory ordered through Ford in 2018 and it was totally different experience. Getting discounts was easy since lots were loaded with cars pre-pandemic. My order was a true custom order back then. |

Buy bids from multiple online and brick-and-mortar dealers tell the story. Commitments to write checks (no trade in) cut through the talk and tell you exactly where professionals think the market is. I’ve been in and out of several new BMWs over the past 18 months and know what quotes look like on the true insufficient-supply models. I took my M240i to CarMax 3 times over the past 2 months. I submitted to Carvana/Shift/Vroom more times than I can count. I’ve offered my car to multiple dealers, franchise BMW and luxury independent. I’ve also done the same with a base G82 during a similar period. While it didn’t take me long to get an over-MSRP bid for the M4 (high end franchise non-BMW dealer), I only got one bid within $5k of MSRP of my much-cheaper $56k G42, and that was from a friend who basically was giving me a “bro-deal.” And it was literally $51k and change. Every other bidder wanted to pay $10k or more back of MSRP for my month-old M240i. Market conditions are obviously always subject to change, so who knows if the dealer bids will improve and line up better with a “these cars sell for sticker or more” story. I’m actually already thinking of re-ordering an M240i, so I’ll report back on my results should I decide to move forward with that. |

Only negotiating I managed around financing was getting them to wipe away the extra +1% they were charging on top of BMW finance rate.

Of course the car probably won't be here until that rate is no longer locked/available from BMW Finance, but we'll see. |

On an in-stock unit! Well it's shipping here in a few days. Called and ask about possible discount and they say that they can give 2k discount. Do you think it would be wise for me to push it more than 2k or is this already generous in this time and period?

Does anyone know if the OL code we receive at places like UDE are buyer specific? Or can I get a code and give it to a friend?
If they are not buyer specific does anyone have a spare? Would be glad to share mine in about 2 weeks |

Yes, they claim to be buyer specific and are to be used by the UDE participant or a household member.

I was able to get right away 1% off the posted lease rate due to loyalty and $2000 off MSRP without deep negotiation on a factory order. I had equity on my F22 lease, so I rolled that into the new car as trade equity (yes, I know, stupid to do on a lease; needed the payment lower).
During the final paperwork signing on delivery, my new car residual worsened by 2% while I waited for delivery but I held the dealer to the originally negotiated monthly payment. It ended up being less equity on the trade but the paperwork showed 2% off the advertised lease rate and still had my $2000 off MSRP. There were no officially listed discounts on the G42 in Canada that I could find on the main website. The dealer listed my trade-in quite high. I don't know what they got for it, but I'm sure they made some money. I didn't ever expect any equity on an early lease return, but the high used market played a role, so I leveraged it. |
