In HS, worked part time as a counter girl at Chock Full of Nuts Coffee place. That job sucked. First full time job was working as a receptionist in the World Trade Center making $150/week.

Coincidentally, that's my son's birthday. He went there for his birthday a couple years ago. |

I was gone by then. I worked in the Trade Center from 1981-1984. Went to NJ for a short stint. Then I worked a few blocks away in lower Manhattan from 1986 until 1990. I was back in NJ on 9/11. It was pretty screwed up even though I wasn’t there. I always wonder about how many of the people I encountered on a daily basis tragically died that day. My cousin worked in the Trade Center for both the garage bombing back in the 90s and on 9/11.

Tragic. PS - hope your cousin is okay and didn't suffer physically and doesn't suffer now emotionally. |

She is. Thank God but definitely scarred. She was there when the towers collapsed and was literally thrown onto a ferry to get out of the city that day. A few weeks ago, she was trying to get on the subway to get to an appointment and she couldn’t because of a shooter on the train platform. Talk about anxiety. She was freaked she could have been on that train if she left earlier. It’s almost like that movie where death is chasing you. I can’t think of the name.

Also assuming not counting cutting neighbors yards etc, I was 15 years old and dad got me summer job at a now extinct oil service company in Houston. Started building wood boxes for storing various items and quickly moved up to start pulling items for orders which was cool because I got to drive the forklifts! By my third summer there I was in their nuclear parts inspection shop... I apologize in advance for any meltdowns near you!

Although traumatized, she’s been lucky. As I have been. I remember reading posts from a member that lost his finance. Yankee? GlenNYC? I can’t imagine…

Mennonite ran butcher shop at 13 as a cleaner. The amount of blood and lard associated with that job was wild. I remember spraying down the kill room in awe that blood could splatter that far. Man I would come home with a stench to me for sure haha. Followed that working at a gas station for a short time in between my athletic seasons. Then summers of working on a 2,500 acre family farm - learned a ton at this one - driving combines, tractor trailers, racking & bailing hay - all at 16 and 17yr old. If that job told me anything is you listen the first time, that hot headed bastard was a bat out of hell if you asked more then once haha.

Haha, no I don't think so. It was the one in Baton Rouge. I wasn't there long because it was such a far drive from where I lived. I ended up working at a local pizza place after that.

I worked on a pig farm for 12 hrs a day on a Saturday from age 12. Part of the gig was shooting rats, which i enjoyed, dodging the massive fucking snakes was always an issue though.

I guess my FIRST one was working for my Dad on the farm, but my first real one with a paycheck and a W2 was bagging groceries part time after school for $3.35 per hour........AND I had to pay Union dues! I can still remember the first time I got a $100 paycheck - I thought I was RICH.
I was driving a big block 69 Charger back and forth to work, so shocked I was not going in the hole with each trip. If gas prices were like today - I probably would have been. After I install 4.10 gears in it - I think I was in the single digits MPG...... =)

Costco cart retriever!
I believe this was around year 2000. Still in high school and did it as a summer job when I wasn't playing summer ball. Hated it and only lasted a few months before summer baseball tourneys started kicking up and was traveling constantly...total blessing. lol

First job was at 15 years old. I worked in the chemistry department at Northwestern University as a lab aid. Fixing/maintaining their computers, and helping out around the lab - autoclaving/washing chemical equipment etc.
It was a nice gig - paid really well for the time ($9/hr) and I learned a lot, plus working with grad students was fun.
