Paranoia over knocking sound. Bearing ?
Hello everyone
I need some help trying to identify this sound Just for info, i had a spun bearing 2 and half years ago and rebuilt the engine and everything has been fine since then. I have been hearing this knocking noise on cold start on idle and then when the car is warm, the noise is not there anymore. Otherwise the car drives great I have checked both the oil filter and the oil catch can for metal shavings, but there arent any. What is this sound tho ? Is this the normal engine sound ? I confess i am getting paranoid as i dont feel like going thru another engine rebuild. Could it be the lifters ? https://youtube.com/shorts/1scwJWm_ciE?feature=share |

I can only hear the injectors. Sounds normal to me.

Is the noise new?
To be fair it's hard to tell from a video so while everyone's saying normal, it could be missing some frequencies over computer speakers and there really is an issue. That being said, to me it sounds completely normal. A rod knock is usually pretty distinct and I really don't hear any knock whatsoever. What did your rebuild consist of? Ceratek isn't a bad idea for a small amount of added protection but certainly won't fix a rod knock if you have one. If it seems like the injector noise we're all hearing isn't the noise you're talking about, I would pull the pan and inspect the bearings. Rod bearings are a much easier job than another full rebuild. If the crank is still original, it's never going to be perfect after a spun bearing and could be prematurely wearing one bearing. If crank was replaced, no idea. |

It's probably Evap or lifter tick, I wouldn't worry about it if it goes away, |
