Joyriide Detailed: Cherry Vdub

2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Dings, dents, scraches, gashes, rids, swirling, etching, ect. You name it, it had it. Owner picked it up for a low price to have as a daily driver. With gas prices reaching 5 bucks a gallon, who can blame him. None the less, the owner still wanted it as presentable and close to perfect as possible. That itself made me look forward to this detail soo much more than any of the prior ones I've done, especially since I would have 2 full days to do what I wanted.

As you'll see, all horizontal surfaces were obviously used as a bench for bikers with lots of metal and chains. Amazes me the things people do to cars and figure they're doing nothing wrong. For most of the horizontal surfaces to get the way they were, some one must have constantly been dragging boxes or heavy object across the hood and trunk lid.

Something else to note was that the car was previously detailed when it went to auction. Interior had some slick masking dressing, engine was dirty but looked clean from a distance, and the paint was recently buffed as I could tell from looking at some of the more uncommon areas other detailers miss. Exterior trim around the bottom of the bumpers were either missing or burned by the previous detail (which explains why I didn't give too much attentionto them, since the owner plans on just replacing them). This is the trade standard here in Miami, so I'm glad I can give people the option of a Top Tier detail and come out the hero each and every time.

I really wish I was able to get the seats a better, but they got the best of me this time.

Interior
Brass Bristled Barbeque Brush
Meguiars APC+ for extraction and spot cleaning of carpetting, seats. an seatbelts.
Meguiars APC on all plastic and vinyl, headliner, visors,
Meguiars #40
Invisible Glass

Before

After

Exterior

Dawn
Clay Magic RED
No 4000 grit mesh (my mother threw it out along with my sheet of cellophane thinking it was garbage, I really would have loved it this time around).
Meguiars #95 via 3M compounding wool pad @ 1500rpms (horizontal surfaces)
Meguiars #95 via purple wool pad @ 1500rpms (vertical surfaces)
Menzerna SIP via white polishing pad @ 1500 rpms
Zaino ZPC via grey pad @ speed 6 (PC)
Poorboys Nattys (2 coats, 24 hours apart)

Meguiars Super Degreaser (jams, engine, tires, and wheel wells)
Meguiars Wheel Brighter
Meguiars Hyperdressing for wheel wells
CD-2 Engine Detailer
Poorboys Polish with Sealant under the hood and all painted engine parts
Turtle Wax F21 Super Protectant on tires
Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze on exterior glass

Before

During

I used the trunk lid as my base to decide my process for the rest of the car

After

As you can see, some areas were just too bad to do anything about. No matter what anyone says, that requires a repaint

Your's truly, dirty and sweaty but very proud!

Nice work! If the previous owner would have done this, that car could have sold for like $2-3K more, I bet. It looks terrific.

Don't know how I missed this. I bet the car's value almost doubled after that, awesome job. How would you compare the m95 to m105?

Easier to work with, same cut. Instead of 15 second working time, I can run it for almost a minute and get the same results with little hazing and hologramming. Its also easier to remove unlike M105 which likes to concrete itself if used improperly.

Thanks, I'll have to give some a try. When M105 gums up on the paint it really is a pita to remove. Does it gum up pads like m105 also?

Yeah, it does. I use them with wool so I spur them and literally only need 2 wool pads for a whole car.
