Looking to borrow - x35d or 335d crank pulley turning tool
I am new to the forum and need some help. I am unable to source the following tool BMW 116480 - Crankshaft Pulley Turning Tool. No luck from multiple sources.
If any one has one in their toolbox that I can borrow for a few days that would be greatly appreciated. The car is up in the air right now as I am pulling the DPF to get cleaned and also dealing with a passive DEF tank sensor failure + DEF pump issues in order to pass emissions. (that is a story for another time). I need to borrow the tool for a week max as the crankshaft pulley parts are scheduled to arrive in the next few days. KR |

ktr32 - You can turn your engine over by turning your alternator pulley. Put a socket on the alternator shaft and turn the alternator pulley. This will turn the crankshaft. I turned over my engine that way when I did my carbon cleaning of my car and needed to turn the crank to close the intake valves. It Works great and is easy to turn.

I rotated from the alternator pulley. I did have to add pressure to the belt to keep it from slipping. At the same time, my son added gentle pressure to one of the crank bolts. It got the AC belt on without moving the one crank bolt we were pushing on.

You can rent the whole tool set from TunemyEuro (TME) too. It has the crank turning tool, the AC belt tool, and the tool for working on the alternator idler pulley (if converting to Fluidamper only). TME can normally get stuff to you in 3/4 days but you need to call them early to make the shipping cutoff.

I got one on eBay or Amazon, can't remember. It was part of a cheap set of tools which were for setting the timing, I think. I'd have a look at the tools in a timing kit, and see if any come with the crank tool

I usually just turn by one of the 4 torx, no issues. But if you are concerned and have a 3d printer, I ran across this:
