Intercooler hose clips mod
"The factory intercooler retaining clips must be modified to ensure a long-lasting seal. Remove the 90 degree portion of the clip as shown below. A small pair of bolt cutters or a belt sander works great for this!"
This is the quote I'm referring to which is on TME.. has anyone done this themselves and if so is it worth doing? I suppose the clips are cheap so if no one has done it themselves I will test it out within the next couple days and post my findings. |

What do you think just modding the clips will do? lol. Are you replacing seals? Updated boost pipe? New IC?
This isn't a 'mod'.

If you have stock piping and intercooler then cutting off the 90 degree part of the clip will not make the clip hold any tighter. The middle of the clip is where the clip holds. As long as the middle of the clip is seated all the way cutting off the ends will do nothing except make the clip come off easier. The 90 degree part locks the clip on and makes it easier to install the clip. Cutting off the 90 degree part just makes the clip easier to take off (or fall off).
With after market piping and/or intercooler. I won't comment because I don't know one way or the other about the need for removing the end. Last edited by Tomnavigator; 07-14-2022 at 12:28 PM.. Reason: formatting |

This baffles me why you'd want to remove the locking tabs. Maybe the factory design prohibits a better seal? Idk, anyway, sent msg to TME regarding this little over a week ago to satisfy my curiosity and haven't heard a thing back, if I do I'll post up...

I feel like a lot of comments from people on this forum are very condescending. It seems clear that it was most likely a DIY for the intercooler that TME used to carry that was similar to the wagner evo1.

I just installed the BMS E-Series intercooler today on my 335d and I trimmed off the intercooler clips. I wouldn't consider this a modification, but just something that's necessary when installing any aftermarket intercooler that does not have the clip seating like the oem intercooler does. Just a good insurance to prevent the charge pipes from popping off.
