BMW telling dealers NOT to do Dinan upgrades to 335 cars
I just got back from my local BMW dealer and found out that BMW has told them not to do anymore Dinaqnupgrades to any 335 cars. I had gone to the dealer to schedule my Dinan stage 2 and that is when they told me this. The servicer manager did not have any idea when they would be able to start doing them again.
Has anyone else heard this from their BMW service department? This has been cleared up. I was given misinformation by my local BMW service department. It is only the newer version 81 that can't be upgraded. I apolobgize for posting this and stressing anyone out. Sorry. Last edited by Quisp; 07-01-2008 at 04:02 PM.. |

I sent an email to Evan at Tischer BMW (they are a sponsor/vendor here). They perfrom the flashes, and sell them on their web site. Hopefully we will hear back soon.

great minds think alike Quisp, thought this needed its own thread!
I'm not interested in the flash myself, but am interested in what the heck BMW is doing!

Well here's a question for you Quisp, do you have a newer car with the V81DME? From what Evan told me, that is the only case where they can not give people the flash (this is very temporary). If you have the old DME (V80), then they should have been able to flash you.
This is per Evan at Tischer who sells the flashes. His AIM account is Evan at Tischer if you want to Instant Message him to discuss further. I think your dealer is full of it, or does not understand what is going on if they told you no flashes without exceptions. |

The dealer did not even look at my car or ask what year, jhust that it was a 335. I do not have the utmost confidence in this service department now, so it would not surprise me if he was wrong about this. Thank you for looking into it and contacting Evan, i really appreciate that. I will probably be sending him an email to find out what I can do to get my car upgraded.

I have yet to read about a car company as full of crap as BMW when it comes to flashing the ECU. In the Evo community flashing the ECU is the only way to go. Piggybacks are dead. Few use them anymore. Mitsu has not come up with any countermeasures to prevent tuning the ECU for any of the Evos.
One of the cars I tuned even had his tuned ECU changed under warranty and the dealer did not bother check to see if the rom is stock or not. They just changed the whole ECU and re-keyed the car to the immobilizer code in the new rom. The guy then came back to me and I re-flashed his new stock ECU with the tune that he had. BMW pisses me off with all their BS. This company seems to think that their engineering and tuning is better than anyhting else in the after market. This uppity full of hubris attitude has got to stop. There are so many people in the aftermarket that can produce safe reliable power from a BMW better than BMW can. BMW go FUCK yourself. |

I just chatted with Evan at Tischer and he confirmed that it is the v81 that cant be upgraded and my car should be fine. I apologize for any stress i may have caused. I believed my dealer and now i believe he doesnt know what he is talking about.

wait for the audi with motrnic. motronic is hacked to death. their 3.0 twin turbo will be shredded in no time. siemens is just more of a bitch to hack. the ratio of cars with motronic to siemens is enormous. even hyundai's use me motronic.
"security through obscurity." i'm saying siemens' ecu are obscure but its huge ratio. oddly bmw uses both motronic and siemens ecu's. Audi uses motronic for the entire VAG line and it works quite well. i don't see why they don't just slap asymetrical turbocharging with variable geometry turbo's on this motor and call it an M3 would make 500ft/lb from 1400 to 8000rpm and 600bhp

BMW does have better tuners and engineers that the aftermarket, BMW also has many times more information and design specs of the systems and parts than the aftermarket could dream of. The issue is does BMW have to make it easy to alter the software.
There is no reason BMW should make it easy to alter their product, especially during the warranty period.
