E90 No Start...Thought ELV....No Luck in INPA

Hi, new here! I bought an E90 to turn into a race car, it's an 06 325. It had an issue where the car died, the steering was locked, owner decided to sell it. It is not throwing the red steering wheel just a lock with 1 symbol and the key logo. Anyway, you put the FOB in, push start, and it goes to turn the radio on, the brake and another light pop up, but that's it. Can't get past that.

I finally got my laptop working again but in INPA can't access any codes. Nothing loads outside of selecting the engine code. In there I can see under switches when I hit the brake pedal it does activate. So it's at least connected in some way.

The owner told me he replaced the battery a couple of weeks before this happened. Looking quickly I don't see anything amiss and the blue IBS cable appears connected properly.

What are some options? Am I selecting the wrong options in INPA? I don't have ISTA right now would that be better? Or Check32? Any ideas?

Is the steering still locked.

Run Inpa functional jobs f3 and f4 this will communicate and identify all
modules. This should work if you set up things correctly and the car is
somewhat functional.

If you just setup Inpa it could be the setup or the condition of your PC
See Ista problems link.
Having to setup Inpa or Ista D when you have a car that is not working is not
a very good time to do it.

Ista D is easier to use . All in English and it is like having a shop manual with
guided trouble shooting.

There are still things that won't throw codes that can stop if from starting.
A steering lock problem will throw a code most of the time.

things that won't throw a code
bad starter
bad maf sensor
no fuel pressure
at least those are the ones I know about.
