No start after tranny service, still on stands

So, I just did the fluid/pan/sleeve service on my D. Really no issues other than tight clearances and being on your back. Got her all buttoned up and was going to do the first start to bring to temp to add more fluid, but it doesn't start. Front of car is on ramps, back is on jackstands. When I was rolling the car up to the stands I had the drivers door open and it gave that warning with the orange car and arrows pointing to either direction of it. No biggie, seen it before. Now that light is the first thing that comes on when I open the door. When I insert my key there seems to be no reaction from it until I press the start button. When I press the key it doesn't fully release and I I have to wiggle/pull it out. Just really stumped as to what the issue is, thinking maybe the car is hung up in that moving mode and refuses to start because of it? IDK, really weird, if anybody has has a similar issue or any insight it'd be much appreciated. BTW, scanned with ProTool and no codes...Thanks...D

EDIT: So, I might have jumped the gun on asking this question. I believe the car thinks it's in gear and will not start due to that. I could have installed the valve body with out verifying the gear selector was lined up in the correct position. So I'm gonna look at that tomorrow...still don't know why the key is getting hung up tho...I'll update when I figure all this out....

With the light coming on indicating the door is open, I'm betting your on the correct path. If all else fails disconnect the battery.....reset it. Looking forward to your resolution!

You missed putting the gear selector in the "SLOT"......easy mistake....hopefully you have a container to catch the new fluid or this will be kind of an expensive mistake lol.

Fixed

maryjane and 335dlci were right, the gear selector was not in the slot. Luckily I didn't have to drop the valve body again as connecting the plug adapter was the biggest PIA for me, if you're a proctologist you might have better luck. The selector nub was riding on one of the larger outer rings that captures it...I was able to pry it back and it snapped in the slot once it was close. Verified all torque hoping that misalignment didn't hold something up. I was able to capture most of the new fluid and re add it. Fired right up, it was a bit of a hard shift into R initially but smooth after. Probably lost half quart of new for a total of 6.5, but only took out 5.5 quarts of old which includes the pan and a lost quart on rags, cardboard, etc. Unfortunately I didn't get the "you're full" drip but at least there's more in there and it's new. I think the key thing was just because it thought it was in gear and wouldn't let go until you put it in park, hoping I didn't cause some premature wear getting it out...

This is the kit I used...
