Their engineering department is doing fine with the engine and tech, but their aesthetic department needs a kick in the ass, remember the big sniffers on the 3/4 series? they got so much crap for it, that the new LCI, they changed the grills back to something better looking.
I dont care what the public thinks at the fuel station or keyboard commentators on the forum think lol. Drive what you like - it is you behind the wheel and no others. World turns and cars are designed and made. Not seeing a dilemma. Tis nothing new..............

Dashboard

I absolutely hate the dashboard. Looks like a computer workstation and not a car. Just getting used to digital displays and now they do this. This is awful.

It's really no different than the ID7 screens. It's just that the two screens are directly connected instead of being separated by some dash material. It also provides the driver with better forward visibility of the road

Interesting to compare some things here. Carbon roof will most likely be a $3-4k option. The M4 comes standard with one so real price difference between them is around $10k. You do get a nicer interior and lower weight with the M4.. hmm just food for thought.

I mean, you won't know how it actually looks like until you see it in person.

So far visually as a picture, it's ugly IMO.

Interior is nice, exterior isn't.

But that's just my own opinion, people find it looks nice, and maybe they'll change their mind once they see it in person, or maybe I will.

Right, mind pointing out exactly which ones are doing that?

Here is one not doing that. I'll wait for you do find the backtrackers.

The reveal was as expected after the leaks. Better than the G80/2 but that's a low bar. Indifferent with good and bad bits.

Seems like the sentence in the OP and official documentation is incorrect based on what I see in the configurators so far:

"The new BMW M2 comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox..."

In the UK and German configurators, you actually have to pay extra for the 6MT.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Confused. So UK gets the car in automatic for same base price as US, but they pay $500 extra to get a manual, but the US pays $2500-3000 for the automatic to get what UK has standard?

Impressive appearence. I wrote it before and write it again: best looking bimmer since long. Front and rear lights as well as the curved display still appear like foreign bodies though.
Zandvoort blue fits her very well imo.

The regular ol 3 series never got the large grills. The base 4 series did, and continues to have them (one visit to BMW.com will tell you this lol). BMW did not change anything. This is nothing new…BMW told Chris Bangle that he wasn’t allowed to mess with the 3 series formula, hence the rather restrained e90/e92.

And if you think internet “crap” is going to hurt BMWs feelings or make them change their design direction I’ll point to the aforementioned 4 series, the i4, the XM, the 7 series, the X7 and most importantly of all the iconic M3 (and M4).

This car, like the G80, will break sales records. Whether we like it or not.
Exactly. BMW is not going to change their direction at this point.

Question: Is the G8X breaking sales records? Awfully hard to tell the way the company records their quarterly results, especially for M. Not arguing that people want them right now, they just can't get them. Local dealers have none on hand and waiting lists 10 deep. Now, interest rates are at decade highs and global growth is slowing. I'm wondering if sales figures for these cars end up looking worse than the prior generation due to chip shortages and now economic/market conditions. Not that we will get a great idea from BMW anyway…

To me, the G87 front looks lazy, or undecided at best.
And that's just one example.

In regards to the older cars, they can look their age, but still look beautiful and regal and fit for use on the road today. If I were offered an Aston Martin DB9 new today, I'd take it over the DB11 (which looks good too - just not as good) without hesitation. That's what I'm talking about. I think good design - especially for objects meant to last - should look good at any age.
Matter of perspective I suppose. To me the G87 is an interesting mix of simplicity and “in your face” modern BMW. Simplicity coming from the e30 and e36 it borrows from, and then they breathed in some modern aggression into it. It’s like the e30’s grand kid. He’s been hitting the gym and has that stupid haircut that all kids have these days. Fitting for the demographic they’re after with this model. I think it works.

Agreed with your second point. Nothing wrong with a car looking its age. An e38 or 507 are both still gorgeous but even normal people can look at one and tell it’s from a different era.
