6MT New transmission fluid options?
Hi,
So I'm looking at refreshing my transmission (2006 323i 6MT) with new fluid. Pretty sure my transmission has had the same "lifetime" fluid for its 150k km of operation. I know I can use the OEM febi bilstein fluid, but I'd rather find something a little more local. A shop near me has royal purple synchromax and redline MTL. Really I just wanna know if the non-OEM oils will have similar cold weather performance as OEM. Does anybody have and experience with these MT fluids? |

I use Redline gear fluids, but can't comment on cold weather performance. I think any/all will be fine.

I like using genuine BMW fluid for piece of mind.
Check your transmission sticker. I have a 11/2005 e90 330xi 6 speed. Mine takes MTF-LT-2 fluid instead of MTF-LT-3 fluid like all other e90s. Replace your fill and drain plugs for the new gasket. |

I have the redline in ours; And they work just great in the winter.
The D4 or D6 is the fluid depending if the car is LT2 or LT3 fluid spec'ed (I have half D4 and half MTL in my summer one and you can tell in the cold fall months that the mtl is in there) |

Yes, Its much notchier because its a thicker fluid (more viscous). and mine is only half MTL. The factory spec fluid (redline equivalent is D4 or D6) is a much less viscous fluid.
My winter cars get 100% only D4 or D6 in them vs the mix |
