Question about spacers wear and tear
I've never run spacers before. Was looking into the cons and found the following information below. My question is, is the increased wear they are referring to any different than if I were to just run a wider set of wheels?
"Wheel spacers can sometimes cause an accelerated pattern of wear on the hub components of your vehicle and its suspension. Because you are creating a wider track than what the frame was initially designed to support, you can place stressors that go beyond the tested tolerances that are recommended by the manufacturer. The extra width is particularly problematic for the axles, hubs, and wheel bearings, all of which can be at a higher risk of failing prematurely compared to setups where the spacers are not necessary."

Is there any evidence that it doesn't cause additional wear? My car is high mileage so don't want to be causing more stress on the bearings and hubs etc. if you Google cons of wheel spacers there are tons of articles that make similar claims to what I posted.

the only issue with wheel spacers is the extra weight and the fact your creating a metal sandwich which lead to more possibilities of everything not being totally true and corrosion. under that assumption anyone who increased their suspension handling grip is causing extra wear and damage. imo what ruins wheel bearing are impacts and corrosion.

I've never, ever run a set of spacers that's totally vibration free. Everyone says they are on here but I'm telling you, they will vibrate. That being said TONS of people run them with no wear issues.
Theoretically putting the wheel further out by either a lower offset of spacers increases the leverage being applied to the hub/bearing so it "does" increase wear but I've never seen it manifest in a tangible way. |

Right now I'm running wider wheels and have spacers on the rear, no issues. Agree with the 2nd statement though, spacers definitely put more leverage on all your suspension parts and wheel bearings. Is half an inch futher out enough to destroy everything? Likely not, unless your bearings are already going out for other reasons. |
