It used to be in the 1980s that Nikon had crap autofocus and at that time, pro photographers esp sports (since movement) photographers used Canon.
Thesedays, Nikon are ahead overall in the autofocus department. The pro-level cameras AF performace is about equal but on mid-range models eg Nikon D90 vs Canon 50D or 60D, Nikon is ahead: the AF is more accurate, faster and tracks moving subjects better. So these days pro photographers are pretty much split between Nikon and Canon. For memory cards: I find 4GB is more than plenty. Both brand's cameras are capable of taking photos well in advance of your technical/asthetic ability. So get the one that feels nicest in your hand, that you like the layout of the controls the best and has the viewfinder that you like the best. |

Unless you are a high end professional, its unlikely that you are going to be working at the edge of either camera's capability so any "my camera is better than yours" argument will never actually be tested. Just go for whichever you wish. Both brands will do all that most of us would want (and more). All this durability nonsense is okay if your going to be taking it up everest, to the North Pole or on an extended trip in the jungle, or if you are looking to shoot hundreds of piccies a day, but lets get real, it just down to personal preference.

As others have said, £ for £ there's no difference in image quality between Nikon and Canon. It's down to what feels better in your hands. |
