Huber Optik Tint - scratches

I did a search on this and was surprised no one else has mentioned it.

50% ceramic tint here...

Has anyone else experienced scratches on any of your windows after rolling them up/down? I went back to the tint shot today and asked them why/how this might be caused/fixed. He said that it was caused by the window dew wipe strip likely being plastic and this dirt/road grit in there scratching the tint.

I'd like to know i'm not alone in this problem - please tell me someone else is having the same issue.

If so, are you learning to live with this? or how have you resolved this problem?

Also, i see (what he called) ghosting on the rear window - is this typical? He told me it was...but i'd like to know i wasn't being swindled.

Thank you in advance for the replies

If you're talking about straight lines going up and down, yes I have it too. I was hoping it'll disappear last night when I was cleaning it with Invisible Glass cleaner but it didn't so I know something was scratching the tint.

my tints are also scratched on the inside from rolling the window up and down. Its because of a plastic piece inside the door panel that doesnt have felt on it so it scratches the tint.

i'm wondering whether having the tint is really worth it. The tint shop guy told me its 30$ per window to apply the felt material, or 120$ to take the tint off. He did say that when it got worse to bring it back and they would retint the car at no cost to me.

bah...the scratches drive me crazy, but the tint is nice to have as the weather heats up.

oh well...

Your installer probably didn't use felt strips to line the plastic piece. That's why the tint is getting scratched.

The scratch happened to me but since I got my car tinted at the dealer they replaced the felt and redid the window tine.

So if you get this felt modification done, you should have no problems with the tint getting scratched right (from rolling it up and down)?

To minimize this situation use some Rain-X rain repellent spary on the inside face of the film. After applying and working several times, it forms a slick finish on the inside surface of the film minimizing the friction between it and whatever rubbing against it. Repeat with every or every other car wash depending on the frequency of washing your car :

basically the moleskin or whatever gets adhered to the plastic lining of the window using some kind of glue. if temperatures reach pretty high and your car bakes, the glue will become sticky again and opening/closing the window may cause your windows to have glue marks (use goo gone to get off) or even make the felt lining shift a bit.

it's the best alternative to prevent scratching your tints, but it does have some drawbacks.
