Same size tire on different width wheels?
Sorry for the newbie question, but couldn't find a previous post to clearly answer this... How can 225/40/18 tires fit staggered wheels of 18 x 8 in front and 18 x 8.5 in rear? I just can't figure it out if the current rear tires are 255/35/18 - but I have read it is doable. Can someone please explain? I'm really trying to understand all this good info on this site. Thanks.

The rears will be a bit stretched, but it is possible. Check my spring photos in the link and you will see 235/40R18s on 18x8.5. Nothing that will cause a concern. Black car has four rears with the same size tires. But it will show you what a smaller tire does on the 8.5 inch wheel

I've got 225/45/17 on all around on 17x8 and 17x8.5 OEM wheels, and that will work on 18s too.
