I'll be the naysayer here...I have the Gilmor but haven't used it in a while. I found that to get a nice thick layer you have to go through ALOT of wash soap. Plus - here in FL, even if you aren't washing in direct sunlight, it's usually way too hot to leave soap lie that on the car for more than a few minutes. I usually thoroughly rinse, wash the wheels with a separate bucket, then go by sections with a clean bucket rinsing after each section. Last - unless you don't care about where you are washing, just look at the picts! It takes 10 minutes to rinse all that foam off your driveway!

Yes, a foam cannon is worth it, especially if you want to keep your cars original shine. Using one before each full contact hand wash will remove large amount of dirt that could otherwise scratch your car. One of the reasons why some prefer to use foam guns/cannons, is that the foam produced helps break down heavy dirt without agitation. By applying suds with zero agitation, heavy layers of dirt can begin to run down the vehicle's surface without you even touching the paint.
Hope this helps |

Is a "foam cannon" the same as a soap tip on a pressure washer?
And follow-up: Should I use my old standby Maxi Suds II, or switch to "Honeydew Snow Foam"? That's a product I had never heard of, and it sounds good for pressure washing, but I'd want something that I can use both as a hand wash as well.

I'm really happy with Griot's foam sprayer for the $40 it retails for. No need for the pressure washer, and much better than not having any sprayer. It doesn't create that shaving cream style foam however, which will cost at least $240ish to achieve.

That + Sonax for wheels is the optimal car-wash regime, IMHO. |

The point is, Foam Cannon produces thick, sticky foam that is supposed to dwell on the car's paint for a bit and in the process it is supposed to release stuck on dirt, so it doesn't later get caught in the wash mitt and cause swirl marks. That's the idea, right. Foam Gun, on the other hand does not have the same properties but it serve as an excellent lubricant while washing the car with a wash mitt. Both require a decent amount of soap. The main point, when washing a car, is LUBRICATION. Use a two-bucket method with grit guards and a MF towel or wash mitt. |
