service indicator
apprently when you start up, the number of miles showing in the computer is the number of miles until service, not the next service mileage. mine says 10000 and has 9000 right now, that means next service isn't till 19000?!?
i thought i m supposed to get service at 10k |

Correct, it shows how many miles are left
It works it out via your driving style, temperatures, oil condition ect ect 19,000 sounds like a average number

ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?
I have 14.000km and my service indicator shows 16.000km I tought that I have to make my first oil change at 16.000km (and not 30.000km which seems too long) |

I have 5000kms and 30,000kms more to go to the 1st service ... that a total of 35,000km to 1st oil change (or 2 years, whichever comes first) It depends on your driving style but around 30K to the 1st service is what other people are seeing (except for South Africa for some reason which is half that for diesel anyway). |

Long service intervals are great, lowering the cost of car ownership. But it does raise concerns like that of keeping the engine oil for the entire interval. That is primarily why a number of members have hads their oil changed at more frequent intervals.
Your SII will continually adjust itself during the interval, so dont be surprised to see a quick decline in miles/kms left befor the next service. That may or may not happen, but it could. It is all about cold starts and driving style etc.

I have 9700 miles on my car and the oil light just came on today...checked the level on my comp and it said I had 1 quart left. So I guess it's time to bring it in.

yes its synthetic which is a diffrent kind of oil. However i think that 20,000 is a little extreme. 10-12000 is more in the range call bmw and ask
