i mean its really hard to define free I live below my means... and feel pretty free
theres people who live above and up to their eyes in debt. are they free because they can just buy shit they can't afford? what a concept? also this country allows you to be unemployed and still have ur needs met. see medicaid, food stamps, blah blah. in other countries u die and starve. so thats a metric many over look with out unemployment rate. financial freedom is a loose concept. I still need to work, so technically not free? I don't mind working however so technically I am free. |

people always say "other countries" but name one country that throws it's citizens out the hospital and doesn't save their lives from cancer or other diseases like the US does? Name one country where people die and starve? Bet you'll say Africa. Newsflash. Africa IS NOT a country. Also, they have cities and rich and poor like we do except THEY don't kick people out of hospitals for not having money. Is someone now seriously going to tell me I'm "rambling" for daring to suggest human life is more valuable than the profits of a hospital? Or massive health insurance corporations? Guessing since you're showing a clip from a 1954 movie that I won't bother watching, youre a boomer. Congrats. Your generation got to do all the drugs and whatever you wanted. Easily could afford paying college with a part time job and could easily have a "nuclear family" with a job right out of hs or college. Yet your greedy generation that did drugs and had all the advantages, is now the same one penalizing drugs, penalizing sex, and making everything more expensive. In 90% of counties in America a full time job isn't enough for a 1 bedroom apartment. There's no nuclear family anymore because wages have gone down when adjusted for inflation (FACT), while college has become 4-5 times more expansive, as well as food. Housing, energy costs, etc. No one here has made a single argument about my points. It's all insults or childish phrases like "oh you don't know what you're talking about". Yet no one has any counter points, because you can't counter what I say since they're facts. Last edited by DavesZupra4; 02-08-2023 at 08:04 PM.. |

So what So what Either way, if you meet me at a US state department building and denounce your American citizenship I’ll be glad to fly you first class one way to North Korea so you can live there where everyone is equal. Except for party members of course, they are more equal than others. You do realize that the top 10% of income earners make good decisions? My brother who died of a heroin overdose was on welfare his whole life until his death when he was 38 years old. Every decision he made was a bad one. I suppose that’s Elon Musk and Bill Gates fault? I suspect some college professor taught you that it was. Every single citizen in this country gets free school to grade 12 and every state has a scholarship program where these students can go to college for free if they get good grades. But that’s not good enough for you. You still blame high achievers because you don’t think people who make bad decisions are at fault for those decisions. Yes, I think you’d be much more happy in North Korea where, regardless of a persons, attitude and ambition, they will be forced to be equal with everyone else. also are you seriously going to pick north Korea? The one country on earth thays the most backwards? Heck if no one sanctioned north Korea they would probably be living a little better. Why don't you try Norway? It's capitalist too, but we are so far from capitalism disappearing from earth, that the only achievable goal is to have a country similar to Norway. North Koreas rights violations have nothing to do with the economic systems. Capitalism has the WORST rights violations by far. Let's see. They dropped nukes. CIA has meddled in at least 50 countries MINIMUM either in their elections or created coups. They profit from war. They profit from death. They sold African opium by controlling it. They controlled oil in Iraq somewhat. They sanction countries that aren't capitalist, and then when they tank their economics, they say "see, see how bad those countries are", ans their ignorant population buys it as they're completely unaware and can't even point on the map the countries they're easily brainwashed to hate. What else does capitalism do? Oh yea slavery. Discriminating housing for minorities like durinf Jim crow or even today. They approve pipelines and or fracking in native American reservations despite them protesting for years to not do it, they back stab them and do it anyway. This country is paradise if your a billionaire. That's it. If your millionaire, your probably posing to wage workers while being jealous of billionaires. SO far no one has had any actual points that aren't nonsense, and people got angry because I said ice cars should be banned eventually. No one here is an oil tycoon yet you peolle worship them as gods despite them wrecking our one and only planet and despite them not even sharing one single cent with you. Astonishing. you literally get paid for no doing anything, and get free food and healthcare....you can go crazy and then collect disability as worst...then you take whatever money you do make and spend it on lottery and cigarettes' this mindset is that its not enough is the core problem. you have to adapt, no more eating out. the reason they broke is they don't know how to manage their money, so even spoon feeding them will lead to the same consequences. you just remove all accountability from people with those arguements. kids in elementary school on "free lunch" always had an extra five from their parents to buy cookies and shit....where the fuck they get that kind of money to give their kids if they qualify for free lunch, let alone spending 5 on lunch everyday is not responsible even for me now and I make a lot of money. I was given strict change. no extra food for lunch in school....and i'll probably inherit millions. its lifestyles and being smart with your money. this concept alludes most americans, and this victim mentality further perpetuates this bullshit. Yall act like everyone so moral and values the dollar, lol. fucking broke ass people on disability, stamps, and medicaid always have the newest iphone clothes and sneakers....say what? anyways keep on your moral high horses, back in the day food stamps were sold at half the rate for drugs... why aren't there more drug tests for stamps, unemployment, and Medicaid. anyways whats this thread about lolol to the other poster if your broke in iraq india china you just starve and barely get by. you don't get obamacare and a cellphone stipend lol edit: you keep talking about all the wrongs that america does, we know its a fucked up country. no one is worshipping oil tycoons. most c suite level pepople in any industry are the most slipeery eels you could ever meet. yet in america you could not have a dollar to your name and quailify for disability, food stamps, and medacaid. so thats some cash ur in pocket, food, and healthcare. The biggest problem with the “people need to be more responsible” line of discussion is that the nation’s economy would collapse if people were more responsible with their money. Over 60% of the US GDP is consumer spending and the further down the economic ladder you go the more of their money is actually spent in the economy. So they are targeted heavily by lifestyle advertising to ensure they spend as much as possible to fund many many companies. But even excluding that reality. I never fully understand the desire to see those who have less suffer for having less. If a poor person is spending their money on an iPhone (which I’d argue isn’t inherently wasteful, but let’s skip that for now) or an occasional steak dinner. Why is it a problem for them to enjoy moments in their life? Why is it only acceptable if their life is like the a poor person in India or other third world countries? Why is that level of abject poverty OK in any capacity? Lastly, the school lunch program isn’t about the parents. It is about the kids. Well fed kids learn better. Kids who learn better have a chance of breaking the poverty cycle. It was a godsend for me that the Philadelphia School District provided free breakfast and lunch and played a very real role in my ability to climb out of poverty. It was a shame that we didn’t have running water in our high school, but you could buy it for $1 from the coca-cola vending machine though. I guess the times I spent money there would be seen as a “waste” by some though… They’d probably say I should have just drunk the toilet water… Like a person in a third world country would. |

I disagree with you. People like you are focused entirely on making sure poor people lack dignity and autonomy. A poor person couldn’t possibly save up for anything, because if they got anything from the government then they shouldn’t be lolling about enjoying life. It is an inhumane way to view fellow humans.
There will always be waste in society and that waste will exist at all levels. There are kids born today who are inheriting fortunes and living comfortably even though their wealthy father last contributed positively to the world over 100 years ago and none of them have contributed anything since. No one ever complains about these people’s claim to resources they didn’t earn… Instead of focusing on how how miserable we want to see poor people. We should be focusing on how can we have a humane basic living standard and clear pathways for people to climb up. Very few people want to live in abject poverty, but they aren’t shown a way out. It is why poverty is deeply generational. I grew up extremely poor in N. Philly. We were poor enough that our food went outside on the roof in the winter since we lacked electricity and running water. I’m a college graduate working in high tech as a self taught soft. engineer. Sounds great, but I understand the level of sacrifice and commitment it took me to get to where I am and why the model you’re in favor of doesn’t help anyone — except those who feel better knowing they are “above the poor”. Don’t even get me started on how poorly funded and segregated schools and access to education is in the US. Like the fact my HS lacked drinkable running water or our textbooks were literally from the 1960s. Spend the money on figuring out how we can increase mobility in society so the poor have a pathway out not wasting it on “enforcement” of rules meant to remind people of their poverty. |

The year: 2050
Planet earth is running out of resources and heavily polluted. Freedom of mobility is still extremely important; without it society will turn into chaos. The solution: a tiny self driving capsule, made of recycled materials. Request one through an app, if you need a ride. It will show up at your spot and take you where you want to go.
Not fun, but any better solution? |
