Should this be leaking?
ok I did just install a ps2 in a pwg 335 n55 and they threw in a free diverted valve by turbo smart, so I installed everything today and the car builds boost pretty poorly, also stalls a lot at idle, so I smoke tested it today and the smoke keeps coming from the DV, is this suppose to happen? like when the car is off the valve opens and when your building boost it closes is that why there’s smoke coming out it when it’s open? idk lemme know if u guys are having this same issue, thought it was the turbo inlet but it’s actually coming from the DV which is a pain in the butt to take back off
I even took a video of the leak, take a look https://youtube.com/shorts/kL8BWqJs9KI?feature=share |

When the diverter valve should be open, it's just supposed to vent back to the turbo inlet, not out of the turbo housing. That said, I know some turbosmart diverters are set up to also vent to atmosphere for the BOV woosh sound (in addition to recirculating). However, I don't believe the diverter should be open when the car is off. I'm not sure of all the conditions hat trigger the DME to open the diverter valve, but it's primary purpose is to open briefly when lifting off the throttle to prevent boost spikes and compressor surge. Did you buy this used from somebody, or from pure?
Also, did you get a tune specific for the PS2? If you still have a tune set up for the stock turbo, it won't control boost very well with the ps2. You'll need to get a tune for it to work right. |

The valve's default position is closed, not open.
From the video it seems to be leaking at the connection, meaning it's not sealed and/or tightened properly or it doesn't fit your car (it does seem to fit strangely from the video). |

No, you're probably thinking of the wastegate. On n55, the wastegate is normally open, and the DME closes it to build boost. The wastegate is on the exhaust side of the turbo- exhaust can flow past the turbine when the wastegate is open. As the wastegate closes, more exhaust is forced through the turbine, building boost.

Just an update took the wp and thermostat off tonight to get to the dv and sure enough when I took it off it looks like the oring that seals got pinched and wasn’t seated in correctly so there’s my issue most likely.

I think I’m having the same issue, trying to track down what I think is a boost leak cuz I am not hitting targets so gonna do the upgraded dv. Hopefully it goes well ofc it’s not easy.
