According to the bmw.com link above, it's only applicable on the 5 series, 6 series, and Z4.

So all it really is is just a traction disabler and asuspension dropper/ damper up button? Sounds a bit like the M button to me

I guess on 5 series 530i N52 with SMG has this sport button, it does alter throttle response though.

here is what it does

Dynamic Driving Control
The Dynamic Driving Control makes it possible
for your BMW to react in an even more performance-
oriented manner at the push of a button:
> The engine responds more spontaneously
to accelerator pedal movements.
> Gearshifts are faster.
> The engine speed range is used optimally in
the Drive mode.
> Cruise control*:
The stored speed is reached more quickly
when it is requested.

Our "sport mode button" is shifting the shift knob over to the left without moving it up and down for M mode. Just knocking the lever over to the left engages DS mode witch is Sport Mode. Once you push up or pull down, Manual Mode is engaged.

yes but thats the sport mode for regular auto.

the sport mode for car has N52 with SMG acutally has a "sport" button to press.

I wasn't aware of any E9x that came from the factory with an SMG transmission.

Regardless, I don't really see your point. They do the exact same thing. When you're in sport mode, there are different driving profiles that activate according to driver input.

yes i am kinda bored... but not much else new here in this forum..

i was thinking the "sport button" works like sport mode on old e46 M3 even for manual tranny, it just alter the throttle response.

e60 530 and Z4 3.0si are the model has SMG option, here is some picture, sport button on top left of the shifter.

Well normally electronics will work on 3 or 5v. I'm assuming the sport button has 2 or 3 pins. One for ground, one for power, one for the signal to activate something.

So theoretically, you could tap the wires from the microswitch that is triggered when you engage sport mode, wire the button to power and ground, and the signal wire will tap one of the wires going to the microswitch.

Now as I mentioned before, most electronics work on 3 or 5v. So you will need to wire a voltage regulator circuit to step the 14.4v or so down to 3 or 5v.

Determining whether the system operates on 3 or 5v will be trial and error. Start with 3v, if that doesn't work, go to 5v.

If the button does work, I can help you design something that will protect the car's circuits as well as the one you will be integrating. The above is just to see if the idea will work. That design will need protection or you can risk damaging your other electronics.

I RELEASE MYSELF FROM ANY LIABILITY IF YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEMPT THIS. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

But essentially, you will be be mimicking what shift the lever over to the left does.

The only issue I see with this is when the lever isn't over to the left, the driving profile will automatically revert to the default non-sport mode. Since the button above is a momentary switch, it will not keep sport mode active.

So you would most likely have to disable the microswitch and replace it with the button. And possibly have to modify the button so it is a push button and not a momentary switch.

yea only if some genius can find out what that sports button really does and how to wire up the switch....

like you mentioned, if it only alter the shifting pattern, then its just same as regular auto DS mode.

What I heard from friends sport button from 5 serious will also change the steering respond. Which make sense as BMW now equip with active steering.
