CryoMode Dry Ice Cleaning

BMWCCA had an event today of dry ice cleaning. They used a BMW M5 for demonstration. It was amazing that they could make the under carriage look like new. No chemicals. Blasted the parts with dry ice that then turned into CO2. The dirt and oils fell to the floor.

Dry ice blasting is nothing new, various airlines have portable units that they take either onto the runway or into the hanger and then blast dry ice into the aircraft engine to clean it.

In fact I am a recently retired (early) Rolls Royce UK Aero Engine fitter working on the repair side of the business and we had an automated dry ice blasting machine years ago.

A more interesting use for it is an alternative to walnut blasting for intake valve deposits.

Many years ago in the early days of jet engines walnut shells were fired through an engine to help polish and deburr the blades.
