So my car recently started to overheat then shut down totally on me while sitting on the phone in a parking lot. So I let it sit, then tried again to start it and it let me go about 20 feet, though not up in rpms, until it shut down again. Now it won't start, after I changed the crank shaft sensor, and put in a new starter, and added coolant, it just wont turn over. I mean it turns over, just doesn't crank. I talked to a local bimmer shop, and the guy told me sounds like that timing jumped. Any advice?

Get INPA or protool and read codes.

Check for a bad ground strap

Yeah, not timing. Battery/ground issue.

If it turns over its not a ground issue. You said it over heated, have you checked oil for coolant? Pulled glow plugs and checked for compression? Are you getting RPMs when cranking? Dont assume new parts are good. These dont often overheat, but IF IT did you need to check the usual suspects for said scenario.

It's not even turning over now, guess I need to check the ground.

Also no errors with protool. Only foot well things like lights.

So I'm finally going to be able to get under there and check that ground strap tomorrow morning. If that is not the problem, do I just need to go through checking all these items?
