picked up car today from getting new turbos

I recently posted a thread with the part numbers BMW ordered to fix the loud ticking noise and flutter sound when decelerating. I asked to see the parts they replaced, and they brought out the turbos attached to an intake manifold. It also had a metal tube that was attached, and it was connected to a flat circular metal piece. The service manager said that this small circular piece was what was causing the rattling sound etc.. It's crazy that BMW will replace both turbos because of this one small piece on each turbo assemby? I'm not complaining though! I have attached pictures of the turbos that come as one piece connected to the intake manifolds. Seems that they can't replace one piece, it has to be the entire turbo assembly. Not sure if others had this also. Thanks.

Every time I see how small our turbos are I almost feel bad how hard they have to work to make me go fast.

I need to give them a day off.

op, glad your car is back and all better

These turbos are glorious... Very different design from what you usually see, must be very efficient given the size and the power levels we have been reaching at only 15psi.

Those little gerbils get plenty of time to sleep on your car

I have 23,800 miles on the car. No more loud ticking, fluttering noises. Just a slight ticking once started, but quickly goes away. Sounds great now!

Did they send you home with the old turbo's, the ones they took out? I'll buy them from you.

NO, BMW kept them. Not sure what they'll do with them now, since they replaced them without them being the main cause of the problem. So, they replaced the good turbos with 23,xxx miles because they were part of the assembly that problems with a small metal piece rattling.

They keep a set of turbos and the complete assembly lying around to show inquiring customers. ;-)

If that was yours, they'd likely rebuild it (repair defective part), perform some testing, and install it as a warranty repair on some lucky winner's car.
