I've never worked on this engine, so I'm not familiar with it.

Have a leaking valve cover gasket that needs replacing.
Figured that this is the correct part :
Valve Cover Gasket - Part Number 11-12-7-582-245

Three questions:

1) Should I consider replacing the timing chain at the same time? I had an E39 that broke its timing chain at about the same number of miles - killed the engine, hence my thought about changing the timing chain on the E90.

2) Is there any specific guide/instruction set you'd recommend following for replacing the valve cover gasket, and separately the timing chain?

3) Are there any other parts that you'd recommend changing at this age/mileage when doing this work?

1) Ive not seen any timing chains broken on the n52, only guides and sprockets
2) Youtube has plenty "N52 Valve cover"
3) Because of the plastic valve cover and integrated oil separator, would replace the entire valve cover as it tends to either crack causing a vacuum leak, problems with the PCV as such. Some options (11127552281) comes with the valvetronic sensor gasket, eccentric shaft sensor gasket, comes with gasket and bolts. That kit does come with the CCV hose going to the intake manifold that can be a pain to take off without breaking. Would do that myself

As the previous comment said, the timing chain itself is not a common point of failure on an N52.

I would suggest taking a look at your oil filter housing and oil pan while you're in there to check for leaks. Those gaskets are two of the other more common issues that need to be addressed after the 100k mile mark.

Check your VANOS bolts and consider replacing the eccentric shaft sensor while you have the valve cover off
