Spilled oil on belt, new belt?
Hi all,
While changing my oil, I opened the oil filter a little too quick and spilled a bunch of oil all over my serpentine belt. I quickly cleaned up as much oil as I could with a towel/brake clean. I replaced the belt + tensioner 10k km ago, so will the belt be able to survive this? If I should change the belt, I can leave the tensioner alone right? |

IMO you're fine - I've done this before and did the same as you, just cleaned it up quickly. With no active leak, it'll sling most of the remainder off anyway.

Belt is likely EPDM elastomer, with moderate grease and oil resistance. BMW Belt life is phenomenal, my original belt has 240K miles.
If concerned, spray w belt dressing. |
