Esco jack stands are well regarded by many folks working on BMWs. The shape of the pad lends itself to the proper adapters needed to fit into the lift points on the car frame.

I would definitely second the Esco jack stands if you are not up for getting a Lift-jack (I'm still waiting to get one myself). I have the orange Schwaben stands from ECS which are the same as the Esco's. The Schwaben low profile jack is still a bit tight to get under with the front lip on so I use 2 jacks, 1 on the side then one under the center point, any cheap jack should do.

I had a manual hydraulic floor jack for several years but got rid of it. In its lowest position it was about an inch too high to get under the low slung 335, unless I drove front wheels on to two sections of 2x6 lumber planks first. I ended up getting a scissor lift that accepts metric socket - I use my cordless drill with a 10mm socket to effortlessly raise/lower the car now. It fits right under the center lift point no problem.

You will need a 'low profile' or 'racing' jack to get under the jacking points. Something that looks like this:

Not recommending this one, but just to illustrate the low 'nose' to the jack that you will need.

Just got myself a quick-jack last year. It is a bit of a pain in the neck if all you need to do is an oil change, but if you do other work around the car, it's great. Is very solid to be able to do a lot of work under the car, clearly worth it if you like to do your own repairs.

Does anyone else use ramps? There are some that think they're not safe but I've never had an issue. Just like any tool, I inspect them for cracks or other defects but it's easier than using the floor jack and jack stands for an oil change.

I use it when changing oil or something like that. BUT, I always put jack stands under some suspension parts and two full size tires underneath at various points. I always triple back up stuff holding vehicle.

Only jack that would fit under my msport front bumper with CF lip with my car lowered. It is super low profile and jacks up high. Used the jack for 5 years and no issues.

You can go a couple of ways on this. My procedure is to use two trolley jacks, a pair of jackstands and a couple of those urethane pucks that fit the side jack points. One trolley jack is a lightweight aluminum one (HF). That goes under one of the side jack points to get the front end high enough to get the main heavy duty trolley jack under the front end and back to that jack point on centerline about even with the front axles. That way I don't need one of those expensive long reach low profile jacks. I jack the whole front end up enough to get the jackstands under the jack points on either side, and lower the car on to those. Remove the big jack and do your oil change. Lowering is the reverse process. A bit cumbersome, but it gets the job done with the equipment I have on hand.

I do pretty much the same, but use a road-side screw jack (kind that used to come with the cars) to lift up a side enough that the trolley jack will roll under from the front. Then just release the one on the side while lowering the car onto the floor jack. Then jack it up and throw some jack stands on the sides to support it when up. Works great!
