Good evening all, I'm replacing the shift knob in my car which came with the M Sport package. I know to detach the boot first, and then pull up.The knob and boot are attached, which I like and would prefer to replicate.

My question is this: how do I connect the new knob - planning on the ZHP weighted knob - with the boot so it's directly connected? Do I need a new boot or is there a clever DIY I haven't seen before.

My first mod was the ZHP knob, you just pull hard straight up and it comes off. The boot is separate and can be changed, I'm swapping an alcantara boot but you'll need to literally cut the old one off the plastic frame and glue the new one onto the frame.

The collar on the boot is pretty tight around the shifter.
Put your new shift knob on and just slide the boot up to sit against the knob.

So I did something like this in my first e90. The result was the boot wasn’t connected to the shifter and felt cheap. I want the OEM look and fit and finish.

I’ve used the zhp knob with the factory boot and it looked oem.

I replaced my M-Sport knob with another M-Sport and I seem to recall the boot did not seperate from the knob, at least not easily. There is a chance the M-Sport knob doesnt seperate like the ZHP one.
