Noisy 320D, needs valve adjustment?
The car has done around 165k and I think it is noisier than it was when I bought it. I mean that diesel engine noise when it is running. Is it safe to assume it needs valve adjustment?
Also, is valve adjustment something I could do myself when I have time? I quick search didn't find anything about it for my car. |

If it's tappet noise, they're hydraulic, so no adjustment.
Could be the chain tensioners. If it's diesel knock, I'd run some "pre emissions" cleaner through, then use premium diesel or use a good additive with just standard diesel. |

As above they're hydraulic tappets so can't be adjusted and shouldn't be noisy!
Being an M47 the chain shouldn't be an issue, but they can still get noisy & fail, so worth getting it checked, it could also be noisy injectors.

What kind of noise do injectors make? Should I be looking into maybe getting them removed and cleaned up or something, given the age/mileage of the car? |

Injectors do make a tapping sound anyway, there could be nothing wrong with it.
You need to listen to another 320d or M7 engined car to compare, then see if you think yours is noisier. TBH some injector cleaner wouldn't go amiss, most don't do much, but Forte and Millers are the 2 that do seem to work.
