I'm scared to experiment with making parts other side of air filter especially with trumpets in a plenum in case one of the many parts fails and gets ingested. Need a big company to make one with good public liability insurance

With doing carbon parts, what is carbon fiber reinforced plastic. I have seen the e92 m3 uses a carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof and the gt4 rs has carbon fiber reinforced plastic intakes. Does anyone know how to do about the process. In my head it’s taking plastic parts and wrapping them in carbon fiber.

I should of took some photos of the process really I had all the equipment lying around from previous carbon projects
Bit hard to explain but I'll try;
Made a base for the lid to sit on out of plastic signboard
Used a sticky mastic to ensure no gaps around the edges
Covered the lid in wax to help release from the mould
Coated in 3 layers of epoxy tooling gel coat
Reinforced the gelcoat with 5kg of an epoxy putty.
Once fully set I released from the mould as can be seen in previous post.
Followed a wet lay carbon fibre procedure with a vacuum bag as can be seen on you tube if you search wet lay carbon.
I used 3 layers of 210g twill weave which leaves it a bit flexible but I think the thicker you go the quitter it will be. I do more miles on track than road so the louder the better for me.
With the front duct you have to smooth out the flexible area if you want a clean look inside and out. However the m performance front intake duct is a two parter a top and a bottom. If I was going to do it the best way to get a mold would get someone that would let you borrow their m performance front duct.

Is the plastic part just referring to the resin as carbon fibre is just a piece of cloth really. Like Grp means glass reinforced plastic

A bit more progress. I glossed the prototype lid I made to see how I prefer the finish. I quite like it. I also tried some foam sealent tape around the edgeswhich kind of workedbut it dulled the noise which I was a bit disappointed it now sounds more refined or sporty. With no seal it sounded raw and racey which I loved. These are all down to personal preference I suppose.
