MHD failing
Hello,
I seem to be having some trouble with MHD which gave me a sleepless night. It said my tune was out of date so I tried to do a long write last night. I have had MHD for 5 years and never a single flash fail. All lights ,radio , climate off Key in and ignition to first setting I am using the MHD wifi adapter from iPhone. I have tried with a charger on the battery ( I think it's a pretty weak charger) and I have tried with my wife's car hooked up and running with jumper cables. I have been attempting to flash back to stock before I flash my map again. I gets anywhere from 30-90% before it randomly fails. My car ran fine previously to this but my battery is extremely old. I did keep the charger on it all night. It showed full in the am but as soon as I started the long write it dropped down to 1 or 2 bars on the charger. Could that be the cause of this all? Maybe a new battery or a stronger charger will help? I am stumped if it could be anything else. Never had a issue with the wifi adapter either. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have had the car for 6-7 years. It's a 2010 so I dunno if the previous owner replaced the battery or not. It does not look like a bmw battery so I assume it's newer than oem. Battery is a "world source one" 48AGM

many indy shops (and others) will provide a load test and check voltage for free.

UPDATE
All it's resolved. Turns out my MHD wifi adapter is acting up. I think it was randomly dropping off during the long write process. I used my old tablet and Bimmer geeks cable and flashed without issue. Thanks !

I've had MHD flash fail on my recently too and was going through this headache. Was using a THOR WiFi adapter and have since switched to a physical cable. Not taking any more risks with wireless but thats my $0.02.

Was going to suggest just that, I always have the cable in my car, WiFi can be finicky sometimes unfortunately. Good to hear you resolved the issue.

fwiw, I haven't been able to reliably flash my car with an iPhone since sometime last year. I have both the orange MHD adapter and the new MHD adapter. I've tried all different methods with the iphone and it usually takes upwards of 10 tries before it flashes properly.
I end up using an old Android phone with the exact same adapters and it works flawlessly the first time everytime. It sucks, but I'd rather know it'll work the first time around. |

Not so funny story... my THOR adaptor has failed 2x already. I bought the lifetime warranty originally so they have replaced it but man these appear to be built like trash.
