water pumps keep dying help before I sell it

Hello all my water pump failed in my e92 last week and it had less than 3 thousand miles on it and it was an all metal Pierburg that died internally. But I just found out from the previous owner the his water pump failed had it replaced and shortly after it failed so he sold the vehicle to my uncle who i purchased it from so this would be the 3rd water pump in under 20k miles. I’ve always heard the water pumps in these cars suck but I can’t imagine this bad. Has anyone discovered a root cause for this scenario? I installed a new oem ground strap since mine wasn’t there and aftermarket ground wires were just ran randomly I removed those and drove about 300 miles before the failure so I wasn’t sure if there was a grounding issue elsewhere besides the strap from the motor mount to the frame. Any help would be appreciated since I just put 10k into a ton of preventative maintenance and mods and if it keeps eating water pumps I’m selling the car on the next one

No idea if the ground strap situation could effect it but my thought is no, it's either grounded or its not.

I had a water pump that was installed at a shop fail after about 1k miles. They replaced it again under warranty. My other e90's original pump died at 26k. I think you just got unlucky honestly, it happens with these sometimes.

I've heard of a few waterpumps going 200k on these cars, and plenty that fail within a year. Average seems to be about 80k miles but the failures are all over the place.

I’d agree with you but the last 2 water pumps died with incredibly low mileage and when I replaced it this time I found they snapped the ground bolt off in the the block and bolted the ground to the thermostat and water pump so I got the broken bolt out and put the ground where it belongs and added an additional ground from the frame rail to the block. I’m fairly confident I’ve solved the issue since I’ve now gone 500 miles and I havnt even gotten the speed variance code which I was noticing before on the old pump with the improper ground. My water pump had 3 ohms of resistance it had shorted internally and a bad ground acts as a load and a load adds more current and more current makes an ac motor get hot causing the windings to short. So if anyone seems to be eating water pumps check your grounds!
