Looks great and everything, but this sounds like nuclear fusion, which has been promised to be "around the corner" for the past 30 years. I will believe it once I see it.

I remember reading in 2008 that batteries with 10x capacity/ 1/10 weight were available and will start making their way into production but never materialized. I think there’s a lot of that going on that seems to show promise in a lab but doesn’t scale and work well on an industrial level for whatever reason and then you never hear about it again.

BMW is certainly not only interested in solid state battery technology but is also co-developing it with Solid Power.

The next 18-24 months will produce more news of interest to all of us interested in EVs.

If one has to have an EV today, leasing becomes the only practical option.

they've been saying that for 10 years about this and hydrogen and ended up making hybrids

Solid Power is far behind Toyota. SP is just now getting their prototype battery line operating. Toyota has had a prototype EV running solely on solid state cells in 2020. Only thing holding Toyota back is economies of scale. Supposedly they have had a recent breakthrough in that area according to these recent articles.

There are so many other important battery parameters besides just range. How fast can you charge it, what's the longevity curve like, can it be produced at a reasonable price point... and many more.

I agree with others--there's been so much hype for so many years, that I really won't believe it until I see it in a production vehicle.

One thing I'd be curious to see is how many companies are putting real money into regeneration alongside solid state batteries. Are we truly at a point where we're scavenging as much power back into the non-solid state batteries as possible? 300 miles of range seems to be the main "range anxiety" point for the average consumer; something like 450 miles due to good regenerative braking and small gains in non-solid state battery tech seem quite feasible versus the quantum leap that solid state batteries can and will provide (sometime in my lifetime, I assume).
