That sucks man but I think alot of the dealerships 'trained technicians' are that way. Back when I use to take my cars to Tom Bush one of the valets bounced my M3 off of the rev limiter while bringing my car around and I flipped out. Had a discussion with the service manager where he basically called me a liar...I now take my cars elsewhere and make sure to share my 'Tom Bush Experience' with anyone considering purchasing or servicing their car there.

yea basically if you arent happy with the service go elsewhere...for an ipod retrofit we wouldnt mess with your cowl which means it was probably done at a different time...we dont just go LOOKING for a tuning box...its not like we get paid to do it so why would i or any tech waste time looking for a tuning box of which would have no ill effect on anything unless you complained of a problem engine or driveline related?

When I went to replace the sensor in its proper location, I noticed that none of the little rubber tabs that attach the main cowl cover to the smaller, rubber side cowl covers were in their proper place. Hm.

I kept digging.

I found that the passenger side air temp sensor had had it's little lock tab broken off. Further, the passenger side cowl cover bits were all askew (tubes not in their slots, rubber tabs wedged under the hard cover).

I pulled the microfilter cover and started to take off the cowl cover when I found that the passenger-side tab that hold the cable stay over the engine was broken, hanging there. The driver-side screw hole for securing the microfilter to the cowl cover is stripped and cracked from over-tightening. After I got the cowl cover off I found that the cowl cover's center tab on the firewall side had been subjected to a forcing and so was also broken, hanging there.

In short: when the techs at my dealership went into my cowl area (we all know what for), they did a hack job of dis-assembly and re-assembly.

Things I find funny (not ha-ha) about this:
  1. I actually paid $650 on this visit, as it was an "iPod my BMW" retrofit
  2. according to my invoice, nothing in the cowl area was serviced
  3. I wasn't contacted by anyone for feedback on my visit.

I used to go through this shite with my 2000 Audi S4. The techs were total hacks. Every time I went in for service, I had to go back again to fix something broken during service. After 5 years of being treated this way, I decided that I couldn't in good conscience own an Audi anymore.

I hope that this is an isolated incident. Until I can trust this service department again, I'm going to insist on receiving my car with my SA, to double-check that nothing on the car is worse than when I gave it to them.

- How does the ipod option work on your car (seamless)?
- Do you enjoy it?
- Does it still connect through your glovebox?
- Does the shuffle feature feature still work the was it is supposed to?
If you don't mind Rob.

I noticed almost the same thing on my 335i last evening when I was washing it. I had mine in for a SAT install and they went into the cowling?? and left two screws missing, one overtightened to the point of breaking the tab and one of the tabs on the cable rail is broken.
Wonder if they had to be in there for the Sirius install? I have no idea but I do know is was not like that before.

Maybe that gives them more control since they do own the car. It is sounding like modding on a lease for this car is not a good idea.

here's the thing, the dealership doesnt own the car. bmwNA doesnt own the car.
BMWFS owns the car.

its a very subtle difference, but its not the dealership or bmwna thats going to ding you for broken parts, its BMWFS.

Sat install is done through the trunk and the interior.
