I'd like to add some sound deadening to both my cars. What are you guys using? I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative to dynamat.

I have read about Peel & Seal @ Home Depot, but I wish to keep it butyl based. Don't want to risk the asphalt smell being in the car as some have had.

You can usually find some cheaper stuff at the speaker repair stores.

The peel & seal asphalt smell went away very quickly in my 4Runner. But I don't think it's as effective or cost-efficient as Dynamat. I ended up using Rammat on that project and it came out very well.

I've also used Rammat almost exclusively, not because it's necessarily the cheapest or even the best product, but because the customer service has been great over the years.

Yes I bought deadner , butayl rope and velcro from them.
Can I compare it to anything else no because its the only
time I have ever done this. These guys were recommended
by VP Electricity a well respected installer I used it with
one of his kits.

How did the cover 25% method work out?

I just followed what other people did on threads here.
The truth is you probably don't need this stuff on
BMW door because it has a lot of material/mass and its
only a 4 inch speaker .

You bought from SDS, but did not look at his site at all? He is very adamant about only needing to cover 25% of the area & covered 100% does not make it better etc. As per my sig, I'm not doing a BMW.

I just put some on my doors as per numerous examples
on key spots around the speakers and on the map storage
area as I didn't want to have to go back in . His cd tiles
are heavy an substantial is about the only comment I could make.

I used Dynamat on my Mustang cause I had it laying around but I've heard good things about RAAMmat. For comparison Dynamat is about $8/sqft and RAAMmat is about $3.50/sqft. Just figure 25% coverage and on doors there's 3 areas (outer door skin, inner skin, and back of door card).

Another vote for RAAMmat! I have used it on multiple vehicles. Agree with the comments about their customer service!

Besides the door, where else should we be deadening our cars? Is there anywhere around the underseat enclosure that people have tried? I've noticed some pretty nasty resonance around the high mid-bass regions, only with specific songs though.

for best results, put it everywhere. Doors, floors, trunk...

as far as product goes, Second Skin is highly thought of in the Car Audio scene, but even the cheap stuff on Ebay works well. Biggest thing to do is to look at the thicknesses on the cheaper stuff and make sure it compares to the reputable brands (Second Skin, Dynamat...)

If you want to get crazy, get the liquid sound deadener. But its really only practical if you remove everything out of the car and tape off the things you dont want covered. I sprayed my SPL vehicle and was able to completely deaden it with a few hours of work, vs the 10+ hours using the mats would have taken.

It depends what your overall goal is... surely fron doors, wheel wells/archs, bottom of trunk, roof, under rear seats, cavity under rear side panels (e92)...
